The Hour is Blue

In the Words of Dr. Jasḵwaan Bedard: X̱aad Kíl and the Resurgence of Haida Language

X̱aad Kast: Haida Language, Memory, and Resurgence

In this episode of The Blue Hour, I introduce Gyaahlaang G̱udee, an episode from X̱aad Kast, the podcast of Dr. Jasḵwaan Bedard.

This is not a live interview, but rather an opportunity to listen to Dr. Bedard in her own words: her reflections, research, and teaching on X̱aad Kíl, the Old Massett / Northern Haida language.

Her work focuses on Indigenous language revitalization, X̱aad Kíl, immersion, pedagogy, translation, and language learning guided by Haida community, laws, and values.

The episode is titled Gyaahlaang G̱udee, with Dr. J. The title means “Radio” in X̱aad Kíl.

This episode is drawn mostly from Chapters 3 and 4 of Dr. Bedard’s 2025 dissertation, A Haida Research Framework for Learning X̱aad Kíl.
